I think the differences are in the details - I had a very close look at an i30 and was extremely impressed with the interior - superior to many mainstream brands yet cheaper - the sort of car that would make you feel very smug indeed.
The best way to do it is work out whats important and then weigh up which has the features that most matter to you. As I understand it, the Hyundai is slightly better on interior presentation but also slightly more money.
Only real differences in costs I can see would possible be servicing in term sof hourly rates charged and list price. I think they have slightly different suspension set-ups too.
Drive them both and you decide!
